Tom is a native of Maine and is an avid hunter. Since
childhood he has harvested thousands of birds. To become a better hunter, Tom
observed and studied the distinct behavior of individual specie; how they walk,
swim, fly, land, become airborne and interact with other birds. Through this
study he developed an admiration for their beauty. Tom has been able to apply
this knowledge as a wildlife artist and taxidermist as a way to further his
passion for hunting.
Tom is a self-taught Master Taxidermist with an ample supply
of his specimens to experiment on. He is constantly developing new techniques
and once perfected, he applies them to customer birds. His attention to detail
and the natural way he poses the birds are outstanding. Just as all humans are
individuals so are birds. No two are exactly alike even though they may look
alike. Using artificial heads and feet are acceptable methods in modern
taxidermy; however a hunter has never harvested a bird with an artificial head!
Tom uses the original head and feet whenever possible. Using the exact skull
that nature gave the bird makes more sense than trying to fit a generic man-made
plastic head (that could be a different size) to the bird. Cleaning, repairing,
preserving and rebuilding the skull and feet takes more time and effort than
using artificial but Tom feels it is well worth the effort. Tom strives to make
every bird that leaves his shop lifelike- a true work of art.
Tom has 19 years of award winning taxidermy experience. He
has mounted birds for other Taxidermists, Maine Guides, Maine Game Wardens, The
U.S. Forest Service in Maine and New Hampshire, Wood Carvers and countless other
customers throughout New England.
